I recently published my first YouTube video. Exactly 3 weeks ago to be precise. I was working on the second one today, which I recorded a week or so ago. I’ve been gathering B-Roll off and on since, trying to cover all bases. Sat down to edit today and had a 10 points long list of B-Roll I still need to get. I’m not so sure if I should see it through though.
The problem? The video isn’t feeling right. Don’t get me wrong, even the first one wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be, nowhere close to perfect. It did however, feel right. This one just doesn’t.
My friends have been supportive of this venture. And naturally they’ve been asking for updates. I even had a thumbnail all ready to go. The title was ready even before I pressed record to make sure the video starts in line with it. Here’s the thumbnail actually:
Everything is great, I just don’t feel like this video is it. Two of my friends told me to just see it through given I’ve spent so much time. One said “What’s the worst that can happen? Just publish it.” I replied instantaneously, “the worst tha can happen is I spend an extra 2-3 hours on this and it still doesn’t feel right.” It could get a million views and I still don’t know if I’d be happy with it. I mean sure I would cause that would make me an overnight success. The point is though, it wouldn’t feel like I made something I envisioned.
Getting back to the title of this post and the follow up question though, consistency trumps perfectionism, right? But consistency is all about improving, and in retrospect, doing it right over time. I just don’t feel like this one did anything for me or where I want to head with this channel.
I strive to be a YouTuber. To “make it” there, apparently passion is King. Consistency coupled with monetary gain however, is Queen.
1 video a week, that’s the goal for now on. The video could be 1 minute long or an hour. ONE video EACH week. I’m not gonna be a stickler for which day exactly, but starting when the next video is published, I will only give myself max 10 days between 2 videos and average four videos each month.
As I plan to sign off in my videos, at least as of now:
PS Out.
